Meditation

My Instagram post this morning mentioned the importance of wellness, so I thought it would be only fitting to hit y’all with a resource I’ve used for years on my own journey to peace of mind. The Mindfulness Awareness Research Center at UCLA has served me very well, and though I’ve never  physically been to the space, their free meditations, tips for mindfulness, online classes and more have truly helped me through some daaaark times since med school. I know, I know, some people don’t really do well with meditation and get antsy just thinking about it.  If that discomfort sounds familiar to you, do what I do sometimes and put one of the recordings on when you’re trying to sleep. Worst case scenario, you have a soothing voice in the background of your dreams, and best case, you pick up some skills for self-love and self-preservation. For all my people of color especially, we need to do ourselves the favor of trying healthy, positive ways to address mental health issues in ourselves and in our communities. Consider this to be one small step in that direction.

Speaking of self-love, I’m post-night shift again and headed into another long shift tonight, so I’m gonna cut this post short in order to get some much-needed sleep. Thanks for checking in, and feel free to ask any questions about wellness/meditation/mindfulness or share your experiences!
